This is Why I Chose CR for Vein Treatment

The Beginning of the Vein Treatment Journey

Catherine Horgan May 2021 Kkphotography 41Unsightly veins are enough to make you want to try any method possible – whether an at-home remedy or going to the doctor’s office – to get rid of them. That’s exactly what working mother, Catherine did. Catherine had suffered from vein disease since she was in middle school and had tried “quick fixes” throughout the years to cover her visible veins.

“I had given up, as nothing seemed to be working. In the past, I selected treatments that were more surface level.”

Everything about Catherine’s veins made her feel embarrassed. Whenever going to the pool, she would cover up to hide her legs immediately after getting out of the water. “It stripped my confidence”, says Catherine.

After years of not getting the results Catherine was looking for, she decided to try something new. Instead of receiving more of the quick fix treatments, she wanted to get down to the root cause of her vein disease to cure it once and for all.

The Path to Recovery: Healthy Veins and Legs

Why Charlotte Radiology Vein Centers? Catherine did her research and learned that our radiologists are specialized experts in the vascular system with more than 115 years of collective experience. After going to an initial consultation with one of our physicians and getting a vein ultrasound of her legs, Catherine discovered the reason why all of her quick fixes never lasted long. There was abnormal blood flow in the veins deep in her body so any minor procedures done at the surface level would eventually cause the veins to return.

After meeting the vein team at Charlotte Radiology, Catherine felt informed and ready to begin her customized vein treatment consisting of a minimally invasive Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT) procedure and medical Sclerotherapy.

During Catherine’s recovery, she continued to do light exercise (under guidance) and once healed, she felt confident and comfortable in showing her legs again. Catherine says, “It was liberating! It felt amazing to be able to wear shorts and short dresses again! I was so impressed with the level of care that I received from the doctors and staff… everyone throughout the process checked in to see how I was doing during treatments.”

Think You Might Have Vein Disease? Here are Typical Symptoms

Vein disease can affect anyone regardless of age or other medical conditions. As many as 25% of women and 15% of men experience significant vein disease. Typical symptoms for people with vein disease include:

  • Prominent or bulging veins under the skin
  • Leg swelling
  • Sensations of heaviness and aching relieved by elevating legs

Common Non-Surgical Vein Treatment Options

If you are diagnosed with vein disease, know the options that are available to you! Through the advancements of technology, surgical treatment is no longer the only available option. While treatments will vary depending on the type and severity of venous disease, all are office-based techniques that can be performed at our SouthPark or Lake Norman Charlotte Radiology Vein Center locations.

Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT) for Varicose Veins:
EVLT is an hour-long non-surgical procedure using ultrasound guidance to close off the varicose vein, naturally rerouting blood to healthier veins. Medical Sclerotherapy is typically performed as a follow-up to EVLT to treat diseased superficial veins.

Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins:
Cosmetic Sclerotherapy (performed by one of our registered nurses) is the cosmetic treatment of spider veins to minimize or eliminate their appearance using a safe injectable solution. More than one treatment session may be needed to achieve desired results, especially if you have multiple areas to treat.
